Fashion Stories
9 February – 4 March 2007
Private View: 8th February, 6-9pm

The Brick Lane Gallery presents Fashion Stories, a glimpse into the unpublished and personal work of eight contemporary fashion photographers. Each photographer, freed from the restrictions of commercial requirements, has given carte blanche to their most personal and exclusive vision. The final exhibition ranges from the ethereal, midnight tableau-vivant of Karin Berndl, to the evocative, sophisticated portraits of Antoine Picard, to the aestheticised, tantalising strip-tease of Matthew Shave. These very different works are united by their spectacular beauty, and the underlying narrative of the exhibition evokes a feeling of serene sadness and ambiguity in these frozen scenes capturing a human approach to stylistic photography.
Fashion Stories is part of an ongoing exhibition set in the Brick Lane Gallery’s calendar to coincide with London Fashion Week. Organised by Danielle Horn, fashion photographer (www.lookerlondon.com/Danielle_Horn.htm) and curator at the Brick Lane Gallery.

Photographers and their work will include:
Matthew Shave ’s delicate and stylish photographs have won him work with Jimmy Choo, Estee Lauder and Selfridges; while his work has also been featured in most major magazines such as Vogue, Harpers Bazaar, Elle and GQ.
French born Antoine Picard creates images of a classical and sophisticated beauty. His simple portraits are reminiscent of a different time and place.
Karin Berndl ’s enchantingly lit and composed images seek to create a strong narrative with scenes of otherworldly landscapes and characters.
Robert Jaso creates strong and elegant images capturing movement, light and expression. His clients include Matthew Williamson, L’Oreal, Wella, Italian Vogue, Icon Magazine and German Madame.
Leo Krumbacher ’s esthetical vision explores the natural beauty in his photographs’ subjects. The humanness of his images and a certain ambiguous and foreboding narrative reveal scenes of a beautiful complexity.
Aimee and Anoush ’s mysterious portraits create a world open to interpretation and intrigue. Anoush from Iran and Aimée, a Dutch national, started working together as a team in 2004 after finishing art school. Their photographs have been featured in various magazines and exhibitions and were recently in the National Portrait Gallery’s “Photographic Portrait Prize”.
Jork Weismann ’s stunning images of a simplistic yet evocative beauty are full of a sensitive and human approach to stylistic photography.
Rinze ’s work is a hybrid of photography and graphics (by Neil Duerden) creating striking images framed by his ability to capture a moment and bring each photograph to life. Rinze has produced work for Dazed & Confused, GQ and Wallpaper Magazine.
