Charles Saatchi has become an unwilling celebrity in this celebrity culture. A 2006 portrait of Charles Saatchi entitled 'I love Charlie' by Darren Coffield was created for the launch of www.drugaddict.co.uk and recently sold to an anonymous collector. To celebrate its sale, the portrait is to be centre piece in an extraordinary exhibition organised by www.drugaddict.co.uk
Celebrity and Art have now been hopelessly confused.
The exhibition named after Darren Coffield’s Portrait ' I Love Charlie' is in fact an art competition between Celebrities & Artists using art work from www.drugaddict.co.uk & the Guy Hilton Gallery collection. A selection of photographic work (originally exhibited at Proud Gallery Camden in 2006) by celebrities including Richard Fleeshman (Coronation Street), Roxanne Pallet (Emmerdale), Sadie Frost (Ex wife of Jude Law), Alan McGee (Man who signed Oasis) and Chas Smash (From Band Madness) will hang on one wall, on the opposite wall will be art works by artists, who will include Franko B, Gavin Turk, Bob & Roberta Smith, Jessica Voorsanger (whose work deals with celebrity), Darren Coffield, Tracey Emin, Derrick Welsh, Mark McGowan & Tim Noble.
